Dacic: Frontex Police Forces will also be deployed on Serbia’s Border with third Countries

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, said today that the forces of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) will be deployed at the state borders of Serbia with third countries.

This is foreseen in the agreement on operational activities carried out by Frontex in Serbia, which Dacic signed today in Belgrade with the European Union Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Ilva Johansson.

“Thanks to him, Frontex police forces will be deployed not only on the state borders with Bulgaria and Hungary, but also on the state borders of Serbia with third countries,” said Dacic after the signing, which was preceded by a meeting with Johansson.

He pointed out that this will significantly contribute to the joint fight against cross-border crime and irregular migration.

“Serbia protects its borders, but it also preserves the security and stability of the whole of Europe. That’s why we need a unified response and support,” said Dacic.

The EU also donated 65 vehicles for the border police, and Dacic pointed out that the Union is one of the most important donors to the Ministry of Interior.

“The donation of these vehicles contributes to the strengthening of the capacity of the Border Police Administration to protect the state border, fight against irregular migration and cross-border crime in the ungrateful conditions of work in the field. This type of assistance is extremely important because we protect not only the borders of Serbia, but also the borders of the EU”, said Dacic.
