The 82nd Venice International Film Festival will feature the official program of the film “Mother”, a new work by award-winning North Macedonian director Teona Strugar Mitevska. The film will officially open the Orizzonti (Horizons) program, one of the two main programs of the festival.
In addition to Teona Mitevska, the script was written by Bosnian and Herzegovinian screenwriter Elma Tataragić and North Macedonian writer Goce Smilevski. This is the fourth successful collaboration between Teona Mitevska and Elma Tataragić, and the previous film “The Happiest Man in the World” also had its world premiere at Venice 2022, as part of the official selection.
The film “Mother” is inspired by the biography of Mother Teresa, and focuses on a crucial week in her life just before she founded her order in India. The film stars internationally acclaimed actress Noomi Rapace, alongside Sylvia Hoeks, Nikola Ristanovski and Labina Mitevska, who is also the film’s executive producer.
The project is a co-production between Belgium, North Macedonia, Sweden, Denmark and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Bosnian producers are Amra Bakšić Čamo and Adis Đapo.
The film will compete for six official awards within the Orizzonti program: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Screenplay and a Special Jury Prize.
The Venice International Film Festival runs from August 27 to September 6, when the winners of the oldest and one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world will be announced, Fena news agency writes.
