The first truck with humanitarian aid, which was collected in recent days by the humanitarian organization Pomozi.ba to help the people affected by the earthquakes, left Sarajevo today for Turkey and Syria.

More than 50 Pomozi.ba volunteers, students of the University of Sarajevo, and citizens are working on sorting and packing the aid donated by citizens from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina to help victims of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Numerous items such as electric heaters, aggregates, blankets, sleeping bags and clothes have been collected.

The goal, as the spokeswoman of the Pomozi.ba Association Maja Arslanagić-Hrbat said, is to finish sorting and packing by Friday so that they can send a large convoy of aid to Turkey and Syria as soon as possible.

More than 20 trucks of aid collected by citizens from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the citizens of Turkey and Syria are still arriving in Blažuj.

In addition, the citizens also take care of the volunteers who work all day and night and bring them food and drinks, as well as the necessary means for packing and sorting goods.

“Although we know that people will help, they respond with humanitarian actions, but we did not expect this kind of response. This is the most successful humanitarian action. The biggest response is not only in the form of donations, but also the support of volunteers, people who want to help in every possible way,” emphasized Arslanagić-Hrbat.

She pointed out that if the trucks cannot go to Syria, they found another way. They have already paid about 100,000 BAM in aid to humanitarian organizations that are currently in Syria and are already distributing meals and food products to people who have been left without homes.
