The G7 agreed on a Draft Statement on Israel and Iran

The leaders of the G7 countries have agreed on a draft joint statement on the conflict between Israel and Iran, but US President Donald Trump has not yet approved it.

The leaders of the world’s most developed countries are meeting today in Canada, and the meeting is overshadowed by tensions in the Middle East and concerns about Trump’s moves.

According to the draft, the G7 calls for a de-escalation of the conflict, but stresses that Israel has the right to self-defense. It is also emphasized that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons, and the leaders state that they will work to preserve market stability.

It is not clear how close Trump is to accepting the statement. In his first term, he famously rejected the G7 joint statement, which adds to the uncertainty.
