The Government of Japan has decided to provide grant funds in the amount of 92,529 Euro (approx. 180,971 BAM) for the project of primary school renovation in Zenica. The Grant contract was signed on Thursday by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. AIKI Toshihiro, and the director of Aleksa Santic Primary School, Ms. Coloman Mirsada.

“This is the second time that we have given the support to this primary school, and we have earlier helped in repair of the heating equipment. This support will enable roof repair for 540 pupils and professors to get the education in the environment unaffected by the weather throughout the year,” Ambassador AIKI said.

For her part, Ms. Coloman expressed her satisfaction, and stated that, with selfless support of the government and the embassy of Japan in BiH,

“This donation is not only an investment in the infrastructure, but in the future of our children that will, through the conditions of work and education, will have the opportunity to study in the secure and more quality environment,” Ms Coloman said.

Via this project, named The Project for the Renovation of Aleksa Santic Primary School in Zenica, the school will be able to repair the deteriorated roof on the school building and solve issues such as water leaks.

The Government of Japan has been assisting the improvement of essential sectors, including health care and education, in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the scheme of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGP) which began in 1996. The total grants approved for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last 29 years amount to over 20 million Euro (approx. 39 million BAM).
