Patient data for giving false diagnoses and issuing prescriptions for expensive drugs is misused in Canton Sarajevo (CS). The Institute for Health Insurance of the CS commented the inscriptions in the media.
Their statement is shown here:
In relation to current announcements in the media, and increasingly frequent questions regarding the misuse of data of citizens, insured persons of the CS Health Insurance Institute in certain public health institutions and pharmacies, we hereby inform you about the following.
The Health Insurance Institute of CS is aware of the aforementioned issue, since the patient/insured person contacted us directly with a request to investigate the entire case.
Immediately after receiving the report, activities were undertaken to establish the facts. Up to this moment, we can confirm that in this particular case it was about the prescription and dispensing of prescription drugs (antidiabetics and antidepressants) in the period April-September 2021.
All prescriptions were prescribed by one doctor and all prescriptions were implemented in one pharmacy, which may indicate abuses for which the human factor is responsible. We also point out that this is a period when the health system was working under special circumstances due to the coronaviruspandemic, and it is not uncommon for emergency situations to be used to abuse the system.
Taking the whole situation extremely seriously, the Institute will also schedule an urgent meeting with the management of the CS Health Center and the authorized supplier for the maintenance of the information system in order to consider the circumstances and, if necessary, take additional protection measures.
