The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH considers BiH FM’s Statement inappropriate

The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HJPC BiH) assesses as inappropriate the speech of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konakovic, who criticized the work of the judiciary at a press conference on April 25th.

Commenting on the arrests of a group suspected of being connected to the convicted drug lord Edin Gacanin, Konakovicsaid that it was the action of the “judicial-police mafia” and an attempt to “make something that is not true“.

The action in which 23 people were arrested was carried out by BiH police agencies in cooperation with EUROPOL, DEA, and FBI.

At a press conference in Sarajevo, which was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, Konakovic said that he fully supports the Court and the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH to do their job, but that he will not allow that he and those close to him are accused of something that’s not true.

The HJPC states that such statements have the effect of undermining “trust in the work of the BiH judiciary, creating insecurity in society and eroding the principle of the rule of law”.

In a press release on April 26th, the HJPC calls on all politicians to exercise restraint when commenting on the work of judicial institutions and judicial officeholders, Slobodna Evropa writes.
