The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it would allow people in Gaza to move south on certain streets on Sunday.
The main evacuation route will be Salah Al-Deen Street, with a window between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. local time, Avichay Adraee, an IDF spokesman told Arab media.
“If you care about yourself and your loved ones, head south as per our instructions. Rest assured that Hamas leaders are already taking care to protect themselves,” Adraee said.
It is not clear how well the message will be received on the ground, given the widespread power and internet outages, or how secure the passage will be.
According to Adraee, on Saturday, Hamas fired mortars and anti-tank shells at Israeli forces “who wanted to open a road from the north of the Gaza Strip to its south.”
“For your safety, use the next time to move south of Wadi Gaza,” Adraee pointed out.
The IDF has repeatedly called on civilians in Gaza to move south of Wadi Gaza as it has intensified its air and ground assault on Gaza City and northern Gaza, including attacks on densely populated areas and civilian infrastructure that the IDF says is being used by Hamas militants, Klix.ba reports.
