The Israeli military said it shot down a rocket from Yemen on Sunday after warning sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and other parts of the country. Yemeni Houthis confirmed the airstrike and said they had launched a ballistic missile at the Israeli Defense Ministry. There were no reports of casualties or damage.
Residents of Tel Aviv and other parts of Israel took shelter after warning sirens sounded a day before a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement was due to take effect.
Initial reports said there were no casualties or material damage from the missile, German news agency DPA reported.
Yemeni Houthis later said they had carried out a special military operation with a ballistic missile targeting the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv, French news agency AFP reported.
Yemeni Houthis, who operate with the support of Iran, have been firing rockets at Israel since October 7, 2023, in solidarity with the besieged Palestinians in Gaza. One of the latest airstrikes, also intercepted by Israel, took place earlier this month.
