“The Number of dead in Israeli Attacks in Lebanon is alarming”, Borrell says

The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that the loss of life in Israeli attacks in Lebanon has reached an alarming level and called on the United Nations Security Council to stop the conflict.

He warned on social media about the growing number of people killed in Lebanon.

“The number of dead in Israeli attacks in Lebanon is alarming. According to the latest data, more than 500 victims, and among the victims are 50 children,” said Borrell, who is in New York on the occasion of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

“The Security Council must play its role. We urgently need to stop the road to war. Both sides must immediately implement a ceasefire,” he said.

558 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad said on Tuesday. Among the victims were 50 children and 95 women, while at least 1,835 people were wounded, Abiad said.

“Most of the victims in the Israeli attacks since Monday morning are defenseless civilians in their homes. This disproves the enemy’s claims of targeting fighters,” the minister stressed.

The Israeli attacks forced thousands of Lebanese to flee their homes in southern Lebanon and move towards Beirut and the north of the country.

The Israeli military claims to have hit more than 1,100 Hezbollah targets in the past 24 hours in southern and eastern Lebanon, using more than 1,400 different munitions in about 650 sorties by its warplanes.
