In the Italian region of Emilia Romagna, in the municipality of Valsamoggia, a ceremony was held for the opening of the parks “Victims of the Genocide in Srebrenica” and “Alexander Langer”.

The event was attended by the mayor of Valsamoggia, Milena Zanna, Andrea Bertaccini, assistant for culture, Sabina Langer, niece of the late Alexander Langer, who advocated for peace during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and representatives of the association “No problem”.

On behalf of the General Consulate of BiH in Milan, Consul Arijana Dzogovic attended.

On this occasion, the consul emphasized the importance of this event and highlighted the exceptional work, commitment, and effort in spreading the truth about the genocide in Srebrenica by the mayor of Valsamoggia, Milena Zanna and Andrea Bertaccini, which resulted in naming the parks “Victims of the Genocide in Srebrenica” and “Aleksander Langer”.

The park will be dedicated to the memory of the innocently killed victims of the genocide, a symbol of truth, justice, and a warning to humanity. During her address to those present, Consul Dzogovic thanked on behalf of the state of BiH for the opening of the park “Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide” and emphasized that the Republic of Italy was a sponsor of the Resolution on Srebrenica, for which the state of BiH is immensely grateful. She also thanked the representatives of the association, “No problem”, who, as stated, work for BiH.

During her address, Dzogovic said that the role of the late Alexander Langer, who advocated for peace and coexistence in BiH, was exceptional. For this exceptional commitment, the cities of Sarajevo and Tuzla awarded him the title of honorary citizen. He was a builder of bridges of peace, a pro-European politician, an environmentalist, and a fighter for human rights. The book “The Art of Living Together” characterizes the life and thought of Alexander Langer.

Namely, on June 25th, 1995, Alexander Langer and other Members of the European Parliament sent an appeal to the leaders and governments of states to stop the war in BiH, entitled “Europe is dying and being born again in Sarajevo”.

Sabina Langer spoke about the role of Alexander Langer in the fight to stop the war in BiH, an outstanding pacifist, journalist, politician, and member of the European Parliament.

The mayor of Valsamoggia, an Italian municipality in the north of the Republic of Italy, emphasized that the park “Victims of the Genocide in Srebrenica” was opened especially for younger generations, so that they can remember and so that they do not forget the genocide in Srebrenica.

In the discussion, it was emphasized that it is necessary to remain devoted to memorialization and spreading the lessons that everyone should learn from the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica, and that including education about genocide is of great importance, and that it is a key aspect that will make Srebrenica remain alive in people’s memories.

At the opening of the parks “Victims of the Genocide in Srebrenica” and “Alexander Langer,” there was also the BiH director Ado Hasanovic, whose film “My Father’s Diaries” was shown in the municipality of Valsamoggia.

The park “Victims of the Genocide in Srebrenica” was opened by the mayor of Valsamoggia, Milena Zanna, and the consul in the General Consulate of BiH in Milan, Arijana Dzogovic, Fena writes.
