The Path of Refugees: One of them arrived in Medjugorje from Ukraine, today she is left to herself

The aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine has been going on for four months. Millions of Ukrainians have fled their homes and gone into exile in countries across Europe. Some found salvation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), and today they are left to themselves.

Part of the Ukrainian refugees, when the war began, found salvation in Medjugorje. Kristina, a fourteen-year-old girl, was among them.

She was in a collective accommodation with her fellow citizens in Medjugorje for a month, and after that they left for the Republic of Croatia, more precisely, some of them ended up in the towns of the Makarska Riviera.

Reporters met Kristina in Gradac, a small tourist place, earning her money in a restaurant. The season has begun, and Kristina communicates in English with tourists who enjoy the beauties of the Adriatic.

“I came to BiH, to Medjugorje, at the beginning of the Russian aggression. My parents sent me alone with other refugees. I am from a small town near the city of Lviv. I currently live in a hotel in Podaca, and I work in Gradac, ” noted Kristina, who was photographed, bearing in mind that she is a minor so her identity was protected.

When asked ‘Is she happy?’, Kristina says:

“Well, I wouldn’t complain, but I just want to go back to my parents and friends, we’re left to ourselves here.”

Many refugees from Ukraine in BiH and Croatia manage in various ways to earn some money and to cope with these difficult days until they return to their homeland.

This is just one fate of several million people who have left Ukraine in the last four months.

“I have a few friends here, and I often hear from friends in Ukraine,” concluded Kristina.
