The Holy Father recalled today’s third anniversary of the war in Ukraine, calling it a “painful and shameful moment for all of humanity.” He emphasized that he once again expresses solidarity with Ukrainians who are suffering and with all victims of armed conflicts, as he prays for peace.

“Tomorrow marks the third anniversary of the full-scale war against Ukraine: painful and shameful for all of humanity!” Pope Francis said yesterday in his Angelus address, a day before the third anniversary of the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In his speech, the Pope also mentioned “martyred Ukraine.”

“While once again expressing my solidarity with the martyred people of Ukraine,” the Pope said, “I invite you to remember all victims of armed conflicts and to pray for the gift of peace in Palestine, Israel, and the entire Middle East, in Myanmar, Kyiv, and Sudan.”

The Holy Father also expressed gratitude to everyone who has prayed for his health. As a reminder, Pope Francis has been receiving treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital since February 14th, where he was diagnosed with double pneumonia.

“In these days, I have received many messages of love,” he emphasized, adding, “I was especially moved by the letters and drawings from children.”

“Thank you for this closeness and the comforting prayers I have received from all over the world.”
