The problems in Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage began on their honeymoon in Lake Como, Italy, a close source revealed to Page Six.
The couple’s honeymoon included numerous public outings filled with displays of affection caught on camera.
“He was bothered by the paparazzi following them. She’s an international superstar and he acted like he was surprised they were following them,” the source said. “They would barely speak to each other during what should have been the happiest time of their lives. He assured her that he had changed, but that was short-lived,” claims a source close to them.
Another source told Page Six that Affleck finally came to his senses because he had been sober longer. “When they started seeing each other again, he was just getting sober. He was in a vulnerable state, and their chemistry added to that… He was in a hectic, excited state,” the source said. Affleck has been open about his problems with alcohol in the past. Allegedly, he was in rehabilitation for the last time in 2018.
The quick romance quickly faded after he adjusted to sober living. Affleck began to crave more privacy and could no longer handle Lopez’s level of fame. Despite this, they claim that he still took her feelings into consideration. He was described as “very protective of her”, which influenced his decision to delay filing for divorce.
To recall, Lopez filed for dissolution of their two-year marriage in Los Angeles on Tuesday, which coincides with their wedding anniversary in Riceboro, Georgia in 2022. The divorce came after months of speculation about marital problems.
