The Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism announced that it has begun the process of collecting relevant documentation on the environmental and health situation in the Municipality of Vareš, regarding information on the content of lead concentration in the blood of a certain number of residents.

At the initiative of the Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Nasiha Pozder, the Government of the Federation of BiH adopted a conclusion on the formation of a multidisciplinary expert team for environmental issues and possible impacts on the health of the population in the Municipality of Vareš.

“The formation of the team was preceded by a request from the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism to the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs for urgent inspection supervision of the operator DP Metals d.o.o. Vareš in December 2025, and then in February 2026, after which the conducted inspections indicated the need for a multidisciplinary and coordinated approach to this issue,” the Federal Ministry announced.

They add that at the first meeting of the expert team, coordinated by the Federal Ministry, the next steps in the work were defined, including the collection of relevant documentation and available data from competent institutions and operators, necessary for further expert analysis.

The Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism will promptly inform the public about all further activities and steps to be taken, the ministry said in a statement.
