The Second largest Fish in the World was filmed in Istria

A large shark, the second largest fish in the world, was filmed in Istria, the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Pula announced.

This type of shark is harmless to humans, it feeds on plankton, fish and invertebrates by filtering water through its huge mouth.

The large shark, about eight meters long, was filmed a few days ago by a fisherman in front of the port in Medveja, about 200 meters from the coast.

In the attached photo documentation, you can see the giant dogfish Cetorhinus maximus Gunnerus, the second largest living fish today and one of the three types of sharks that feed by filtration (primarily planktonic organisms). Given its rather specific way of life and the high level of migration, it sporadically enters the Adriatic Sea.

To date, it has been recorded a little more than 35 times, mostly around the Rijeka and Trieste bays in spring and summer, although it has been found along the entire eastern coast in different seasons. Young specimens from 250 to 400 cm and adults with a total length of 600 to 800 cm were caught. The largest Adriatic individual was recorded in 2000 in Blitvenica (Croatia) and measured 850 cm in total body length and weighed about 2500 kg.
