Upon learning about the catastrophic floods in Herzegovina while on a canonical visit to the clergy and faithful in distant Canada, His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Porfirije instructed the Religious Charitable Guardianship in Belgrade to provide one-time assistance to the most affected families through the Eparchy of Zahumlje and Herzegovina in the amount of 100.000 euros.
“The aid will be distributed regardless of their faith or ethnicity. The spiritual leader of the Orthodox Serbs prays to the Savior Christ for all those affected, asking the Lord to provide comfort to their families and to stop the floods so that the suffering and destruction of property accumulated by generations will cease,” the statement reads.
Patriarch Porfirije appeals to all the peoples of the Balkans, especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), to show mutual solidarity in these difficult times, emphasizing that we all need one another.
