The Supreme Court of Montenegro accepted the request for the protection of legality raised by the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office (VDT) in the case of Do Kwon’s extradition to South Korea.
After a secret deliberation and vote on April 3, the court passed a verdict approving the request to protect the legality of the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office. This annuls the earlier decisions of the High Court in Podgorica and the Court of Appeal, and the case is returned to the High Court in Podgorica, as the court of first instance, for a new decision, the announcement reads.
Previously, on March 20, the Court of Appeal confirmed the decision of the High Court on the extradition of the defendant Do Kwon to South Korea, of which he is a citizen. Kwon, however, is also wanted by US judicial authorities.
Do Kwon was arrested in Montenegro in March of last year, and is charged with fraud on the crypto market of more than 40 billion dollars. After spending several months in the Spuška prison, Do Kwon was recently released but was placed in the facility of the Reception Center for Foreigners.
