On Friday, the trial in the “Respirators” case against Fadil Novalic, Fahrudin Solak, Fikret Hodzic, and Jelka Milicevic continued in the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
Vasvija Vidovic, Fadil Novalic’s defense counsel, asked expert Ismet Suljevic whether the order of the State Prosecutor’s Office stated that it was necessary to perform an examination and give an expert anesthetic opinion on the use of respirators, which he confirmed.
He confirmed that he inspected three boxes of respirators for 35 minutes on May 6th, stating that there were instructions for use inside the boxes, mentioning that he photographed the whole process.
Vidovic stated that several respirators were mentioned in the opinion, after which she asked about the place of their production, and followed up by asking the expert whether he was aware of the information about the ban on the export of respirators from the European Union (EU), the United States (U.S.), and India, after which the Chairman of the Trial Chamber Dzemila Begovic said she sees no reason to ask the expert about the manufacturers.
Expert witness Suljevic confirmed that he was a guest at least three times in the media, after which Vidovic said that his appearance on Al Jazeera on April 28th, 2020, in which he stated that he would use “this machine with an observation of the patient and the performance of respirator” answers the question of whether he would use these respirators.
Suljevic said that he was not presented with the use of these respirators, stating that it is possible that there was a presentation at the Clinical Center where he works that he was not invited to.
He also confirmed that these respirators are primarily mobile respirators for short-term transport of patients, stating that his source of knowledge is the manufacturer’s instructions.
Further, Vidovic asked Suljevic about the CE certificate mark, for which he explained was a quality certificate, which means it is safe, stating that he does not deny the mark on the boxes of these respirators.
Answering the question of Marsela Bajramovic, the defense attorney of Fahrudin Solak, Suljevic confirmed that he was a specialist in anesthesia and a subspecialist in immunology and that he had not previously examined the performance of a device.
The cross-examination of the expert will be continued on February 2nd.
