The UN Security Council is having an urgent session Today

The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting today due to the Iranian attack on Israel that took place the previous night.

A spokesman for Malta, which takes over the rotating presidency this month, told reporters on Saturday night that the Security Council intended to meet at 4:00pm on Sunday after Israel asked the council to condemn the Iranian attack and designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.

Iran launched drones and fired missiles at Israel on Saturday night in its first direct attack on Israeli territory, risking a major regional escalation as the United States pledged “ironclad” support for Israel.

The Israeli envoy to the UN, in a letter to the President of the Security Council, called the Iranian air attack “a flagrant violation of Israel’s sovereignty”.

“Iran launched a direct attack from its territory with more than 200 drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles against Israel,” wrote Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan.

He also added that the attack is a serious and dangerous escalation.

In a post on X, he also called the Iranian attack “a serious threat to global peace and security and expressed his hope that the Council will use all means to take concrete measures against Iran.”

On the second day of the conflict between Israel and Iran, security services from Tel Aviv presented data on the intensity of Tehran’s attacks.

According to the latest published data, Iran fired 185 suicide drones, 110 missiles and 36 cruise missiles in the direction of Israel.

“Although most were launched from Iran, some also came from Iraq and Yemen as well as Syria. Not a single drone or cruise missile managed to infiltrate Israeli airspace,” the report said.

In addition to Israeli fighter jets, planes from the United States of America, Great Britain, and Jordan, which intercepted dozens of drones over its territory, also took part in shooting down drones.

The spokesperson of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Daniel Hagari spoke about the attack and said that 99 percent of the missiles fired by Iran were intercepted during the night.

“Some of the missiles managed to bypass Israel’s Air Defense Forces and hit the Nevatim Air Base in the south of the country. There was minor damage to the infrastructure, but the base is operating as usual,” said Hagari.

Although it is said that Israel has already decided to respond to the attack on Tehran, the war cabinet has not yet adopted any such decisions.

According to the Israeli media, at 15:00 Israeli time, the military government will sit, after which more details will be known about Tel Aviv’s potential response to the events during Saturday.

When it comes to the damage that occurred after the Iranian attack, for now the most talked about is the material damage that occurred as a result of the downing of missiles and drones. However, Israeli media reports that a seven-year-old girl from the Bedouin village of Arad, which is located in the south of Israel, was seriously injured in the attack by Iran, Klix.ba reports.
