The United States of America (USA) did not receive “advance warning” of the latest Israeli attack on Beirut, Lebanon, the Pentagon said.

“The US is not involved in this operation and we were not given any prior warning,” Pentagon deputy spokeswoman Sabrina Singh told reporters.

She added that Defense Minister Lloyd Austin spoke with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant “while the operation was already underway.”

She pointed out that the US is still evaluating the entire case, adding that she did not have any additional information or any details.

The Israeli military carried out a powerful airstrike on an area in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday night, claiming to have attacked the headquarters of the Lebanese Hezbollah group.

The Israeli army, which has continued controlled clashes with Hezbollah since October 8 last year, has since September 23 carried out hundreds of airstrikes on cities in the south of Lebanon, as well as on the Bekaa and Baalbek regions.

According to Lebanese authorities, 773 people were killed in the airstrikes, while nearly 150,000 were displaced by the bombing.
