The United States does not plan to conduct an independent investigation into this week’s Israeli killing of seven aid workers in the Gaza Strip, the White House said.
“There are no plans for the US to conduct an independent or special investigation into this event,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said.
He said that in a phone call, President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the results of Tel Aviv’s investigation into Monday’s attack that killed seven members of the World Central Kitchen aid group.
Kirby also said that “the White House is reviewing Israel’s report and we will take our time and review it carefully.”
“We will certainly discuss the findings with Israeli officials and aid organizations in the coming days,” Kirby said.
Previously, the organization World Central Kitchen requested the creation of an independent commission to investigate the killings of aid workers, pointing out that the Israeli army “cannot credibly investigate its own failure in Gaza.”
WCK confirmed that seven members of their team were killed in an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip. The seven humanitarians killed are from Australia, Palestine, Poland, Great Britain, as well as a dual citizen of the USA and Canada.
Humanitarian workers “traveled to the de-confliction zone in two armored cars with the WCK logo,” the statement said.
