After the final verdict of the Appellate Council of the International Mechanism for Criminal Courts in the case against the leaders of the State Security Service of Serbia, Jovica Stanisic and Franko Simatovic, the Embassy of the United States (U.S.) announced.

The embassy said that the verdict is an important step towarddetermining the responsibility of each individual.

“We welcome today’s decision of the Appeals Chamber of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts (Mechanism) in the case of Jovica Stanisic and Franko Simatovic. This is a crucial step towards holding accountable the individuals who are responsible for the immense suffering of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). We hope that it can provide victims and their families some sense of justice,” it was said yesterday from the U.S. Embassy.

To recall, the Appeals Chamber of the Mechanism for International Criminal Courts handed down the final verdict against the chiefs of the Serbian State Security Service, Jovica Stanisic and Franko Simatovic. Stanisic and Simatovic were each sentenced to 15 years in prison for crimes in BiH and Croatia.
