The Pentagon announced nearly $1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine in its fight against Russia on Saturday.

“This security assistance package allocates an additional $988 million in support through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) to provide Ukraine with ammunition for missile systems and unmanned aerial systems,” the statement said.

It added that the new package also includes support for maintenance and repair programs to help Ukraine rebuild its forces and build and sustain combat capability.

The package includes ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and equipment, components and spare parts for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of artillery systems, tanks and armored vehicles, the statement said.

This is the 22nd assistance package to Ukraine provided by the Joe Biden administration.

“The United States will continue to work with approximately 50 allies and partners through the Ukraine Defense Contact Group to provide the support Ukraine needs to win the war,” the statement said.

The United States has provided more than $62 billion in military assistance to Kiev since the start of Russia’s “special military operation” in February 2022.
