Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said today that the support of the United States of America, Britain and France to Ukraine is fueling serious strategic risks that have increased the risk of a direct conflict between the world’s largest nuclear powers.
Lavrov said that the United States and NATO are obsessed with the idea of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia and that there are risks in such a conflict that could lead to an increased level of nuclear danger.
“Western countries are on the brink of a direct military conflict between nuclear powers, which is fraught with catastrophic consequences,” Lavrov said, according to Reuters.
The United States and its allies say they are helping Ukraine fend off Russian aggression and that it is Russia that is exacerbating East-West tensions, including issuing repeated warnings about the threat of nuclear conflict.
“The fact that the ‘three’ of Western nuclear states are among the key sponsors of the criminal Kiev regime, the main initiators of various provocative steps, is particularly worrying. We see serious strategic risks in this that lead to an increase in the level of nuclear danger,” Lavrov said.
The three Western countries with nuclear weapons are the United States, Britain and France.
