The White Bastion in Sarajevo was officially reopened to the public today after the renovation and preparation of this historical site for a new season of cultural and artistic events under the open sky, the Sarajevo Municipality of Stari Grad announced.

With the exhibition “Stage under the Open Sky” and a rich artistic program, the symbol of Sarajevo has reopened its doors to citizens and visitors.

The opening program began with the singing of the Bosnia and Herzegovina anthem and the ceremonial raising of the flag, followed by performances by the Choir of the Sarajevo National Theater, ballet artists and young performers, and speeches by guests and partners in the project.

The attendees were addressed by the Mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Irfan Čengić, the Mayor of Sarajevo Samir Avdić, the Mayor of the Municipality of Osmangazi Bursa Erkan Aydın, the Chairman of the Municipal Council Seid Škaljić, and the author of the exhibition Amina Abdičević.

“This important national monument had been neglected for years and closed to the events it deserves. After the Municipality of Stari Grad received the site for management, we performed cleaning, ongoing maintenance and landscaping and prepared future investments, including the installation of lighting in cooperation with our international partners. The White Tabija is one of Sarajevo’s most important national monuments, and our goal is to make it a gathering place for citizens and tourists, as well as a summer stage for plays, exhibitions, concerts, open-air film screenings and other cultural events,” emphasized Mayor Čengić.

The White Tabija fortress is decorated and prepared for holding summer stages, cultural events, concerts, exhibitions and other contents that will further enrich Sarajevo’s cultural offer during the upcoming period.

The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo will continue to invest in the ongoing maintenance, improvement of the contents and illumination of the White Tabija with the aim of preserving this national monument and returning it to the citizens as a meeting place of culture, history and art.

After the end of the official part of the program, there was a tour of the exhibition and guests socializing at one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Sarajevo.
