Bosnians often complain about the poor economic situation in B&H, small or nonexistent incentives, failure in job openings, etc., but rarely they opt for certain industries that can be very lucrative.
Pomology, bee-keeping and the cultivation of medicinal plants are at the fingertips for most, but we are not aware of the opportunities that are offered to us.
However, not all is gloomy. Residents of eastern and western Herzegovina have decided to engage in the cultivation of medicinal plants, primarily dwarf everlast, from which exceptionally high quality essential oil can be made, and whose sale could bring in large amounts of money.
The inhabitants of Bijelo Polje, north of Mostar, also decided to grow dwarf everlast, making this culture increasingly popularized among locals.
Raspberries and strawberries became the hallmark of central Bosnia. Residents of many rural areas around Travnik, Gornji Vakuf, Bugojno and other cities saw the great financial benefits of growing this fruit, so the unemployed, and those who have the luck to be employed somewhere, increasingly decide to engage in pomology.
Beekeeping gained a special popularity in Bosnian Krajina, and export of the high quality honey to the countries of the region brought a satisfactory capital to the Krajina beekeepers.
Accordingly, we can say that one can live well off one’s own labor, because the governing structures of B&H do not seem to have brought anything good to the people of this country for a long time.
