One of the greatest football players in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Miralem Pjanić, officially put an end to his professional career today. The news that ended one of the most successful football stories that BiH has ever had was confirmed by Pjanić himself with an emotional message, filled with gratitude and symbolism that marked his attitude towards the game.
In recent months, there have been many speculations about the future of the experienced midfielder. The media wrote about the possible continuation of his career, and particular attention was drawn to the information that the Azerbaijani club Aktobe is ready to offer Pjanic a contract that would make him the highest paid footballer in the league. However, instead of a new chapter on the field, Pjanić decided to end his career at a moment of his own choosing.
He announced his decision in the way that best reflects his football philosophy – through music and emotion.
“I’ve been playing my own melody my whole life. Every touch, every pass, every shot – it was a note. Football was my music, the pitch my piano. My dream has always been to show the beauty of this game. Today, with a heart full of gratitude, I can say that this symphony was my life,” said Pjanić.
He added that it was an honor to share that journey with everyone who was a part of his career, emphasizing how much the support of the people behind the spotlight meant to him.
“A special thank you goes to my family, who were my first support and my quiet strength. To the coaches and teammates with whom I shared dreams, sacrifices and victories. To the technical staff, doctors and everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. And to the fans – the soul of this game. Thank you for being a part of this music,” concluded the former national team player.
Miralem Pjanić leaves behind a career that few can boast of. He began his professional career in Metz, France, and gained affirmation in Lyon, where he began his rise to the very top of European football. He left a special mark in Roma and Juventus, with whom he won numerous trophies and gained the status of one of the best midfielders of his generation. He also played for Barcelona, Besiktas, Al Sharjah and CSKA Moscow.
In the jersey of the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he made 117 appearances and scored 17 goals, and was one of the key players of the historic generation that qualified for the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 – the greatest success of BiH football to date.
