In response to the tragic event that took place yesterday in Cetinje, the Government of Montenegro decided in an emergency telephone session to declare January 2, 3 and 4 as Days of Mourning.

At least 12 people were killed in the Cetinje massacre, including two children, while doctors from the Clinical Center in Podgorica are currently fighting for the lives of four Cetinje residents, the police announced.

“A terrible tragedy that has affected us all (…) We will also hold a session of the National Security Council at which we will consider numerous options, including a complete ban on the possession of weapons, because after this we must ask ourselves who should be allowed to possess weapons in Montenegro,” said Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.

As a reminder, the day of mourning is marked by the mandatory display of flags at half-mast on all state buildings, local government buildings and public institutions, in accordance with the Law on State Symbols and the Statehood Day of Montenegro, RTCG reports.

In accordance with the Decision, public, cultural and entertainment programs will not be held in public places, and music will not be played in catering facilities.

Electronic and other media are obliged to adapt their program content to the commemoration of the day of mourning.
