Three Persons injured in a Knife Attack in a Mosque in Canada

Three people were injured during Friday’s Jumuah at a mosque in Montreal, Canada, as they tried to disarm a knife-wielding man.

A spokesman for the Chateauguay police told reporters that the victims suffered minor injuries, although one was taken to hospital.

The wounded, in their 50s, managed to restrain the suspect until the police arrived.

About 100 men, women and children were at the Musulman Cultural Center in the Montreal suburb of Chateauguay, and administrator Richid Amane said the man was acting suspiciously after entering the mosque, CTV News reports.

Several men approached the suspect and suffered cuts on the hands and one on the body.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), Canada’s largest non-profit Muslim organization, has asked the community to wait for more facts before jumping to conclusions.

“We are in contact with the local center and will provide more information when available. At this time, we do not have information on a motive for the incident and we encourage our community not to speculate while the investigation continues,” NCCM said in a post on social network X.

The suspect (24) was arrested on the spot. Police said he is being questioned by investigators and is likely to be charged and appear in court on Saturday.
