For the fourth day in a row, protests were held in Sarajevo regarding the tram accident in which 23-year-old Erdoan Morankić was killed, 17-year-old Ella Jovanović was seriously injured, and three other people suffered minor injuries. A new protest is scheduled for tomorrow at 12 noon.
Participants of the protest visited several locations in the city, including the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor’s Office, after which they also reached the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Those gathered in front of the BiH Presidency building called for resignations and shouted: “Get out.”
Today, the resignation of the Cantonal Minister of Education, Naida Hota Muminović, was also requested.
The participants of today’s meeting pointed out that the resignation of Prime Minister Nihad Uk and the fall of the Sarajevo Canton Government will not stop their struggle. They emphasized that they demand the determination of responsibility at all levels, from the Sarajevo Canton Government and the competent ministry to the GRAS company.
Today’s protests were joined by Muriz Memić, the father of the victim Dženan Memić, in order to offer his support to the gathered young people.
Demonstrators moved in two groups today, and the reason for this, they say, is to avoid incidents.
Behind today’s protests were several informal groups of students and pupils, who published their demands on social networks.
They listed four key demands, which include complete transparency of the investigation, withdrawal of unsafe vehicles, systemic responsibility and a long-term solution, i.e. building a quality and safe public transport system.
Chief Cantonal Prosecutor Meliha Dugalija wanted to receive representatives of the protest in the Office, however, no one could declare themselves as an organizer, the KS Prosecutor’s Office announced.
The director of GRAS, Senad Mujagić, resigned today after the tram accident.
The camera footage from the tram that jumped off the rails is being analyzed by order of the prosecutors and is evidence, and its publication may harm the investigative process in such a complex case, announced the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office.
“The team of general prosecutors and the Department of Economic Crime are working intensively on the case. The responsibility of everyone in the chain is being determined,” the announcement stated.
The Cantonal Court in Sarajevo rejected the request of the KS Prosecutor’s Office to order a one-month detention for Adnan Kasapović, the GRAS driver who operated the tram.
