udruzenjeThe members of the Association of women “Kulen Vakuf” realized many projects in the recent years achieving significant income in the sector of tourism and thus provide themselves with a decent earnings.

This vivid town is placed in the valley of Una River, surrounded on all sides by thick forest, represents a real natural paradise. However, in the past few years, due to the collapse of several economic organizations that were main bearers of economic development of this region, Kulen Vakuf has become a place abandoned by its residents, especially the young ones. New hope for the residents of this town appeared few years ago when the National Park “Una” was established, which became a preferred destination for domestic and foreign tourists in a short amount of time.

“We decided to offer something for tourists who are coming to enjoy the Una and its beauties. We started with a humble production, selling souvenirs and local food, and when we realized that tourists are liking it, we decided to significantly increase our offer. Now we are achieving significant revenues” said Jasmina Kurtagić, the President of the Association.

Considering the fact that there are no accommodation facilities in Kulen Vakuf, few women remodeled their own houses into apartments that are visited by the tourists. Kurtagić says that more foreign tourists are visiting the National park and enjoying the beauty of the Štrbački Buk Waterfalls at Una and the woods.

Strbacki_Buk“A large group of tourists from Milan are visiting us for several years. They are thrilled by the nature and staying, so that they come in greater number every year. Also, many tourists from Austria, Germany and France, as well as local guests are coming to visit,” said Kurtagić.

She added that local authorities, as well as several international organizations, recognized their efforts to enlarge the offer for tourists and they successfully realized several projects in cooperation with them.
