Police in Canton Sarajevo is undertaking a number of measures, including a ban on traffic in some settlements whose diesel engines are Euro 2 standard and smaller, after the cantonal government warned of worsening air pollution.
Zone A, in which the municipalities of Stari Grad, Centar, Novi Grad, Novo Sarajevo and Ilidza, is below 700 meters above sea level, is prohibited from moving cars and trucks with Euro 2 diesel engines, according to the Klix.ba portal.
A traffic ban was also imposed on freight motor vehicles, whose maximum permissible mass exceeds three and a half tons, from Bascarsija to Nedzarici, and traffic is diverted to alternative routes.
After the decision was delivered, the Operational Center forwarded it to all police units.
The government had earlier stated that measures were also taken to imply that the movement of cars and lorries whose diesel engines are the “Euro One” were prohibited in Zone A.
