Talented Moto2 rider Borja Gomez (20) has died after a crash during testing at the Magny-Cours circuit in France.

The young Spanish rider crashed during testing for this weekend’s JuniorGP race at the Magny-Cours circuit. He reportedly fell off himself but was then hit by a rider behind him.

Gomez was competing in the European Superstock Championship this year on his Honda CBR600RR. He died as a winner after winning Jerez and finishing second in Estoril earlier this week.

The popular rider is best known for his Moto2 race in 2022 and 2023. He competed in 15 races, with his best result being 16th in Austria in 2023.

The Spanish rider from Murcia took on the role of chief test rider for Honda’s World Superbike project this year. He participated in European pre-season testing alongside Tetsuto Nagashima as part of Honda’s official team.

The tragedy happened a few hours after the death of Portuguese football players Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, so Thursday was a black day for world sports.
