All 242 people on board an Air India plane that crashed in western India today have died, the Indian Express newspaper reported, citing police.

There were 230 passengers, two pilots and ten crew members on board.

The Times of India reported earlier that the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, flying to London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

According to the report, the plane crashed in the Meghani area of ​​the city, prompting an emergency response.

According to data from the FlightRadar24 app, the last signal from the plane was received just seconds after takeoff.

Indian Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu said he was “shocked and devastated”.
“We are on high alert,” he added, noting that rescue teams have been mobilized.

Air India confirmed that flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London had an accident after takeoff.

“The flight, which took off from Ahmedabad at 1:38 p.m., was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on a Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian national and seven Portuguese nationals,” it said.
