The start of a six-day programme of Manual Handling training for over 200 EUFOR civilian staff at camp Butmir has officially begun.

The course was delivered to the EUFOR civilian staff with a mix of presentations and practical activity and focused on improving safety and productivity in the workplace.

The instructor was Company Sergeant (CS) Noel Doherty from the Irish Army; he volunteered for the instructional duties and is currently serving in a Regimental Sergeant Major post with KFOR.

Manual Handling relates to the moving of items either by lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing or pulling. Incorrect manual handling is one of the most common causes of injury at work. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as back pain, limb and joint pain and repetitive strain injuries and account for over a third of all workplace injuries.

All members of the EUFOR civilian staff have been asked to attend on a voluntary basis; it has been a fantastic opportunity as the health and safety of all EUFOR staff is COMEUFOR’s priority. All EUFOR civilian staff have been offered the chance to attend the 3-hour course that will prove extremely beneficial in the long-run both EUFOR and the individual staff members.

This course is being delivered as part of a wider programme of Health and Safety Training in Camp Butmir during 2018. Other courses in the programme include Annual Fire Training, Mobile Elevated Working Platforms, Working in Confined Spaces, and First Aid Training.
