There is no need to talk about the importance of Trebevic ropeway for Sarajevans. Everyone knows that the ropeway was a symbol of the city. It is out of function since the war started, and as it was said in the City administration of the City of Sarajevo, expected deadline for releasing the ropeway into the function is the third quarter of 2016.
The selection of the best bidder for the public procurement “Design of the main project, equipment supply, installment and commissioning of Trebevic ropeway in Sarajevo“, that occurs in two stages, is currently in progress.
In October 2014, a Memorandum of understanding for giving monetary donation in the amount of 3.800.000 CHF (7.109.408 BAM according to the course from 10th April 2015) and the support to the project “Revitalization of Trebevic ropeway“, has been signed.
Trebevic ropeway was opened for traffic in 1959, it connected Bistrik that is located at 583 meters above the sea level with Viewpoint located at 1.160 meters above sea level, and was projected and built by the Czechs. The final departure station was at Bistrik. With a length of 2.100 meters, Trebevic lift was the biggest one in the wider region.
After the war, Sarajevans do not have a ropeway anymore and they surely cannot wait to go again with a lift from Bistrik to Trebevic.
