Republican US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday that when he takes office on Monday, he will issue an executive order allowing TikTok to become operational again.
TikTok, owned by the Chinese company BytDens, stopped working for its 170 million American users on Sunday, even before the law banning it went into effect.
The app has been blocked from continuing due to concerns that Chinese officials could misuse American data and information.
Users are shown a warning message saying that TikTok’s services are “temporarily unavailable.”
The US Supreme Court on Friday upheld a law requiring the company, which owns TikTok, to sell the popular app used by nearly half of Americans or be banned from the country on Sunday over national security concerns.
Trump previously said he was considering a three-month delay in the ban on TikTok.
