United States President Donald Trump congratulated Kosovo on its 17th anniversary of independence.
In a letter to Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, Trump praised the people of Kosovo for the progress they have made, highlighting their perseverance and determination in the process of building independence.
He also stressed the strong support of the United States for Kosovo and its commitment to building a democratic society for all citizens, without discrimination.
“The bonds between our peoples are strong, and we look forward to further strengthening them, particularly through increased investment opportunities, to ensure greater prosperity for both countries. The United States will continue to work with Kosovo to strengthen democratic institutions and foster economic growth through a stable and fair business environment,” Trump said, RTK reported.
He also expressed his expectation that relations with the Kosovo government will be even more productive in the coming year, and that Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration will continue.
“As we work with Kosovo and its neighbors to build a safer and more prosperous region, it is essential that Kosovo further integrates into the Euro-Atlantic community. Kosovo’s steadfast support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression is greatly appreciated,” the US president said.
He added that Kosovo Independence Day is an opportunity to “look back on our achievements and look to an even brighter future.”
Kosovo declared unilateral independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008, but Serbia still sees Kosovo as “its own territory.” Five of the 27 EU member states have not yet recognized Kosovo’s independence, and a dialogue on normalizing relations between the two countries has been taking place under the auspices of the EU since 2011, with the help of some Western countries, AA writes.
