U.S. President Donald Trump said he may consider meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin during his upcoming trip to Saudi Arabia in mid-May. When asked by reporters about the possibility of such a meeting, Trump responded, “I don’t know, we have to think about it… I have not thought about it.” He confirmed that his departure for Saudi Arabia is imminent.
Earlier, State Department Spokeswoman Tammy Bruce emphasized the importance of direct communication between the U.S. and Russian leaders to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Trump and Putin last spoke by phone on March 18, discussing a proposed 30-day ceasefire, measures to prevent escalation, and mutual restraint from attacks on energy infrastructure.
Trump had previously indicated that a meeting with Putin could take place after his Middle East tour, which includes stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE from May 13 to 16.
