Trump not happy with new Iranian Proposal

President Donald Trump said Friday he was not happy with Iran’s latest proposal to end the two-month war with the United States and Israel.

“Iran wants to do a deal, but I’m not happy with it,” Trump said at the White House when asked by reporters about Tehran’s latest proposal.

And while an indefinite truce between the two sides is in place, negotiations to turn the truce into a permanent deal have stalled amid fierce disagreements over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and control of the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier on Friday, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported that Tehran had submitted a new proposal to the US through an intermediary in Pakistan.

Iran’s state television IRIB reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi also informed his counterparts in the region in several phone calls about “new initiatives related to ending the war.”

Earlier this week, Tehran made a previous offer that Donald Trump rejected.

Trump praised Pakistan’s mediation efforts, saying that telephone talks were continuing. “They’ve made progress, but I’m not sure they’ll ever get there,” Trump said. “They’re asking for things that I can’t agree with,” he added.

“We’ve already defeated Iran, but I want to defeat it by a bigger margin,” Trump said.

He stressed that the fact that it would take Iran 20 years to rebuild what was destroyed was not enough for him to call off the operation.

Trump had previously said he hoped the conflict with Iran would be resolved “very quickly.”

On Wednesday, April 29, the US president announced a naval blockade of Iran until Tehran completely gives up its nuclear program, stating that this form of pressure was more effective than continued military action.
