TBC_otvaranje_odjela (1)The Cost Sharing Agreement on reconstruction of Oncology Ward in Travnik was signed yesterday by Tahir Lendo, Prime Minister of Central Bosnia Canton and Armin Sirčo, UNDP Senior Coordinator and Social Inclusion and Democratic Governance Sector Leader, announced UNDP to B&H.

The reconstruction will be financed by the Cantonal Government and implemented by the UNDP by the end of 2013, enabling establishment of the Oncology Ward.

The Tuberculosis Control Ward was also officially open  in the Hospital for Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis in Travnik. The reconstruction of the TB Ward in the amount of BAM 240,000.00 was financed by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) and implemented by the UNDP Project “Strengthening of DOTS Strategy and Improving National Tuberculosis Programme, including Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis and Infection Control”.

Armin Sirčo, UNDP Senior Coordinator and Social Inclusion and Democratic Governance Sector Leader, emphasized that today’s events mark the continuation of successful cooperation between UNDP and the Canton Government, which had started with education and training organized for Travnik TB laboratory professionals and the reconstruction of the laboratory in March this year.

Nikola Grubešić, Minister of Health and Social Policy of Central Bosnia Canton stated: “This is the largest health project in the Central Bosnia Canton during this Government’s mandate. Few months ago I was here for the opening of the TB laboratory and made the promise that investments will continue. Today I confirm that promise. The reconstructed Ward will ensure appropriate conditions for both the patients and hospital staff.”

The reconstructed Tuberculosis Control Ward will ensure improved treatment of patients in accordance with recommended tuberculosis control measures and World Health Organization’s (WHO) guidelines.
