tunel_gajThe Public company Autoceste FB&H achieved another important success in the construction of the highway Corridor 5C. Employers who are engaged in the construction of the highway section Vlakovo-Lepinica pierced the tunnel Gaj, which is 880 m long.

Excavation of the tunnel Gaj was a huge challenge for contractors, because the soil structure was of bad quality. However, this obstacle was successfully overcome.

Construction on the Corridor 5C is progressing as planned and with the completion of the tunnel Gaj the goal was achieved, which was to put into operation more than 102 kilometers of modern highway by the end of the year, meaning for 35 % of Corridor 5C to be completed.

Construction works at the tunnel are being implemented by the Turkish company Cengiz Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret a.s., where about 100 employees are engaged and dozens of machines.

This is the third tunnel that is being pierced at the section Vlakovo -Tarčin. Tunnel Grabosječ, more than 880 m long was pierced in September last year and the tunnel Suhodol, almost 3 kilometers long was pierced in January of this year.

The contract to build the section Vlakovo -Lepenica was signed on 21 December 2012. The section is 10.2 kilometers long and represents the longest section on the highway Corridor 5C, which is currently under construction. The value of the contract for the construction of this section is about 350 million BAM. A partnership between the Turkish Company Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret a.s. and local companies is conduced for the construction of this section. Local companies will conduct construction works worth 200 million BAM of the total amount of this contract.
