Yesterday, during the meeting in Sarajevo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Bisera Turkovic handed over to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock a request requesting accelerated candidate status and the date of the start of negotiations with the European Union (EU).

The official request, signed and sent to Brussels on March 2nd this year by Minister Turkovic, was submitted earlier to the EU leadership, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, EU Special Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell Fontelles, and EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi, and to all other Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Member States of the EU.

Minister Turkovic personally handed over the document to Minister Baerbock yesterday, emphasizing the special importance and opportunity for the EU to strongly contribute to peace, stabilization, and prosperity of BiH, the region, and the whole of Europe by accepting this request.

The head of German diplomacy said in Sarajevo yesterday that the European future of the countries of the Western Balkans is the main priority of Germany.

It should be noted that the member of the Presidency of BiH Milorad Dodik, after a meeting with German Minister AnnalenaBaerbock, said that he asked for the softening of the Brussels administration and obtaining candidate status for BiH.
