Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on Thursday for increased airspace control, stronger Baltic defenses and stronger EU borders with Russia, citing growing security concerns.
“Enough talk, time for action!” Tusk posted on the social media platform X, calling for the swift adoption of new fiscal rules to finance improved European military efforts and urging the EU to finance aid to Ukraine using frozen Russian funds.
French President Emmanuel Macron hosted two meetings with European leaders this week to discuss how to work faster to increase military spending and how to move faster as the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump steps up diplomatic efforts to end the three-year war between Ukraine and Russia.
After meeting with EU leaders in Paris on Monday, Tusk said military spending would not be considered under the EU’s excessive deficit procedure.
“We must act now,” Tusk warned on X, Reuters reports.
