UK Foreign Office confirms Support for BiH and its constitutional Order

Following reactions from United Kingdom (UK) parliamentarians, the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office also issued a statement confirming its support for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and its constitutional order.

“The UK government shares the concerns of the BiH UK Network regarding the irresponsible and unconstitutional activities of Milorad Dodik and the leadership of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity, which constitute a direct attack on the Dayton Peace Agreement and BiH’s constitutional framework. As a longstanding partner of BiH, the UK, together with the United States (U.S.) and European allies, emphasizes the importance of respecting the rule of law, its commitment to BiH’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its support for the Dayton Peace Agreement and the role of the High Representative,” the BiH UK Network stated.

As they noted, the BiH community in the UK sent a series of letters to UK parliamentarians and the UK government, expressing serious concerns over Milorad Dodik’s secessionist activities. In response, several letters of support were received from UK parliamentarians, followed by an official response from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

“Dodik remains under UK sanctions for his previous attempts to undermine institutions. The best response to Dodik’s rhetoric and actions is achieving concrete results that support citizens while strengthening the integrity and stability of the state. This is crucial as BiH advances on its Euro-Atlantic path. The UK, the U.S., and the European Union (EU) are united in their support for a safer, more stable, and more prosperous BiH and will continue to work actively together to achieve that goal,” stated the UK Foreign Office’s response.

The BiH UK Network expressed gratitude to the UK government for its continued support of BiH and its fight against Milorad Dodik’s secessionist activities.

“We particularly appreciate the fact that during discussions at the United Nations (UN) Security Council and OSCE, the UK government has been vocal in defending BiH’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the Dayton Peace Agreement, and the rule of law,” the BiH UK Network stated.
