Ukrainian border guards on Monday rejected reports of reinforcements along the border with Belarus.
Belarus, a close Russian ally that has backed Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine, said last week that Kiev was beefing up its forces along the two countries’ shared border. The Kremlin said on Monday that the report was cause for concern.
“It is not the first time that Belarus offers information about Ukraine, which poses a threat and is getting stronger. It is another part of the information operation that Belarus is conducting with the support of Russia,” said border guard spokesman Andriy Demchenko for Ukrainian national TV.
The border area with Belarus is still “threatening” and Ukraine maintains the necessary number of forces there to prevent any provocations, he added, according to Reuters.
