Unforgettable Success: The Flag of BiH Waves Once More at the World Cup Closing Ceremony

The grand World Cup final in football was held last night, and the title of world champion went to the Spanish national team, which dominated the game against Argentina. But what also caught attention was the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which once again flew during the World Cup closing ceremony.

During the opening ceremony of the World Cup and the performances of Nicole Scherzinger, Robbie Williams, and Laura Pausini, the camera shots repeatedly captured the blue and yellow flag, reminding us of the massive success the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team brought to our country, and not just in a sporting sense.

“No one will be able to calculate how much the success of our national team raised Bosnia and Herzegovina’s popularity globally. Marketing agencies report how the Dragons and the song by Dubioza Kolektiv shattered popularity records, something that multi-million-dollar campaigns cannot achieve. We must continue to promote our country, both within Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world. We often seem to take Bosnia and Herzegovina and everything we have for granted. A country that has problems, but which offers a sufficient base and framework for all of us to contribute to its progress, and the progress of our lives,” wrote Reprezentacija.ba.

It is important to emphasize that the return and success of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team at the 2026 World Cup will remain etched in gold in the history of the country’s sport.

The Dragons achieved that success by their spectacular victories in the play-offs against Wales (5:3) and Italy (5:2).

At the final tournament in North America, the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, led by head coach Sergej Barbarez, secured a place in Group B, where, following a draw with Canada (1:1) and a loss to Switzerland (1:4), they defeated Qatar 3-1, led by the fantastic 18-year-old Kerim Alajbegović.

With four points earned, Bosnia and Herzegovina advanced from the World Cup group stage for the first time in history and qualified for the Round of 16, where they were stopped by the host, the USA (0-2), in a hard-fought match. With this achievement, this generation recorded the greatest national team result since the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
