As part of the Circle 99 session, Tanya Domi, associate professor at Columbia University and the Harriman Institute, spoke yesterday on the topic “The ups and downs of the United States (U.S.) policy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the Balkans in the last 30 years”.

Domi is a connoisseur of opportunities in Balkan and, specifically, in BiH, in the auspices of modern democratic orders and the values of liberal democracy.

“BiH is headed for another collapse – the negligence of the European Union (EU) and the U.S. allows Russia to inflame ethnic passions. I regret to say that everything we wrote predicted the coming crisis, which was illustrated by the U.S. embrace, which was supported by the Office of the High Representative (OHR), accepting the cooperation of Dragan Covic and Milorad Dodik on the delegitimization of democracy, by stealing the idea of reform from the verdict in the Sejdic – Finci case, which they replaced with a formula that encourages the worst urges to give Bosnian Croat nationalists more influence in the House of Peoples through excessive representation,” Professor Domi opined.

She is of the opinion that the U.S. has given up on the idea of a civil, democratic BiH and other parts of the Balkans. She claims that the fact that the State Department is currently working hard to help none other than Aleksandar Vucic, the President of Serbia, also supports this.

Because of all the previously mentioned things, Domi calls on the citizens of BiH to continue protesting on the street – as they did this summer – for what is right, “for a decent living wage and the right to run for office”.

“It seems that the U.S. has given up on the idea of a civil, democratic BiH and other parts of the Balkans. This is supported by the fact that the State Department is currently working hard to help none other than Aleksandar Vucic, the president of Serbia. And the West is not getting much in return for all their efforts. I invite people to continue protesting on the street for what is right – for a decent living wage and the right to run for office,” says Domi, Klix.ba reports.
