US Department of Defense spokesman Pat Rider said the Pentagon has increased the combat readiness of its forces due to the potential threat from Iran.

The statement said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin received reports and provided guidance to his team over the weekend on the latest developments in the Middle East.

“Austin and Defense Department officials are focused on protecting American citizens and forces in the region, defending Israel, and reducing tensions through deterrence and diplomacy,” the Pentagon said.

It was emphasized that the US is determined to prevent Iran and its allies “from taking advantage of the situation or expanding the conflict”.

Austin said that “if Iran or its partners target American personnel or interests in the region, the United States will take all necessary measures to defend its people.”

The presence of fighter jets, including F-22, F-15E, F-16 and A-10, has been increased, and air support capabilities will be further strengthened in the coming days.
